Topnotch Resort & Spa Kicks up the Glamour

Though it already has brought elegance to the postcard-pretty town of Stowe, Vermont, Topnotch Resort & Spa has raised the bar by launching the second phase of an ambitious renovation program that will transform the resort into a true five-star property in the next two years.

Already complete are a multimillion-dollar guest room renovation and a multimillion-dollar spa expansion that made Topnotch Vermont's largest and most comprehensive spa.

To be completed in June 2006 are two new outdoor swimming pools, anchored by a new, patio style casual dining restaurant. Easily accessible to spa users as well, Norma’s will feature an open kitchen, outdoor seating in warm weather and glassed-in warmth with spectacular mountain views in other seasons.

By 2007, the hotel will double in size and many new facilities, services and amenities will be added. In 2005, a cosmetic treatment facility was introduced at the spa, thus completing its conversion to a true full-service spa matching contemporary standards.

This spring and summer—May 5-7; June 2-4 and July 7-9--Topnotch will offer “Retreats for Couples” workshops led by husband and wife psychologist team Marc and Judith Mann. Private retreats will also be available.

The “Retreat for Couples” Spa Package includes eight hours of relationship workshops with Marc and Judith Mann, accommodations for two nights, a full breakfast each morning, lunch, and a choice of a casual or elegant dinner each night, $400 Spa voucher, and access to the Spa’s private lounges, sauna, steam, whirlpool, indoor pool and free time to reflect, shop and participate in additional spa services. Per couple prices start at $3,038 for group classes; private retreats start at $3,938 per couple. To book the package or for more information, call 800-451-8686.

Mohonk Mountain House Embraces Nature With New Spa

Mohonk Mountain House, a “Victorian castle” destination resort set in the Shawangunk Mountains 90 miles north of New York City has opened a 30,000-square-foot Spa which blends modern, environmentally-conscious design and services with a historic past.

Owned by the Smiley family since it opened 137 years ago, Mohonk was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1986. The recent Spa addition was designed to complement the hotel’s distinctive architecture; it has more than 200 windows overlooking 2200 acres of majestic surroundings.

Complementing the Spa’s menu of more than 50 therapeutic services, are such signature treatments as the “Mohonk Red” Massage, which uses indigenous Mohonk Red witch hazel and a variety of massage modalities for relaxation and renewal. Taking elements from nature, the “Shawangunk Grit” treatment uses fine quartz grains quarried from the surrounding cliffs in a gentle exfoliation, complemented with a soothing hydro-therapy bath. Couples’ massage is performed in a private suite with a fireplace. Men’s and teens’ treatments, as well as hair and nail services, round out the menu, which also features a number of packages.

The spa has sixteen treatment rooms, a heated outdoor mineral pool, and a full-service beauty salon, along with a state-of-the-art fitness center and motion room, which features Precor cardio, strength and free-weight equipment.
