Seaside Location Inspires New Spa Treatment

New for the 2006 season at Cliff House Resort & Spa in Ogonquit, Maine are spa treatments inspired by its location atop Bald Head Cliff overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.

SeaShell Therapy, a three-part body treatment to improve circulation and lymphatic function, begins with a natural bristle, dry brush exfoliation followed by an application of seaweed and mud to reach deeper into the skin. A massage of warmed cone, scallop and fan shaped seashells follows. The seashell massage is based on an ancient Hawaiian therapy. A choice of rosemary, citrus or lavender oils accompanies the massage. The final part of the therapy is a full body hydration with Shea Butter, a natural derivative of the West African Karite tree mixed with a blend of herbal extracts.

Other treatments inspired by the resort’s seaside location include a stone massage with basalt stones gathered from the millennia-old Bald Head Cliff, a body buff with salts from the Dead Sea and a facial with a mask made of wild, organic Maine blueberries.

Says Spa Director Julie Morse-Patuleia, “Our therapies incorporate indigenous rocks and plants for healing, relaxing, balancing and energizing.” The Cliff House Resort & Spa has not only a one-of-a-kind location but one-of-a-kind spa treatments.”

The 2006 season will mark the 134th year of Cliff House’s operation. The spa facilities are handicapped accessible and feature a vanishing pool trailing off into the Atlantic, a fitness mezzanine with state-of-the-art exercise equipment, a 75-foot lap pool and 36 guest rooms with ocean views.

La Fontaine Aesthetics Opens in Denver

In a city rich with day spas, La Fontaine Aesthetics described itself as a “fusion” spa and positioned itself as a one-stop shop for non-surgical aesthetics like Botox, Restylane or Sculptra, Cosmetic Dentistry Services, a wellness and nutrition program, as well as traditional relaxing spa therapies with a Thai philosophy and theme.

La Fontaine is owned and operated by longtime friends Dr. Ken Oleszek, a board certified physician and the spa’s medical director, and Dr. John Quigley, director and cosmetic dentist. Said Dr. Quigley, “Several years ago, I saw the growing trend in medical and dental aesthetics and thought that it made sense to bring the two together into a spa environment. Then, after visiting Thailand I was completely inspired and wanted to bring the Thai spa traditions and wellness elements into this project. The result was the fusion spa concept.”

“We wanted to set ourselves apart by providing a comfortable environment for sometimes uncomfortable services. So many ‘medi-spas’ seem cold and impersonal. We’ve actually created something that really feels like a spa in the traditional sense but delivers the results of a doctor’s office,” added Dr. Ken Oleszek. Oleszek is also one of the few Colorado doctors to perform Mesotherapy, a French technique that uses a mixture of vitamins, nutrients and medicines to reduce the appearance of cellulite.

In addition to innovative Thai spa therapies, La Fontaine also offers complete wellness programs to slow the aging process and achieve a healthy lifestyle.
