NEW ELEMENTS SPA AND MINERALS RESORT HOTEL
In the Kittatinny Mountains of Northwestern New Jersey, just 47 miles from Manhattan, the new Elements Spa offers both the convenience of “day” spa services and “stay” spa packages at the new Minerals Resort Hotel. Located in Vernon, NJ at the base of Mountain Creek (the ski resort formerly known as Great Gorge-Vernon Valley), the new hotel and spa are part of Crystal Springs Golf & Spa Resort. Crystal Springs boasts four highly-rated championship eighteen-hole courses— Ballyowen, Black Bear, Crystal Springs and Wild Turkey— as well as the nine-hole Minerals Course designed by Robert Trent Jones. Black Bear is home to the nationally-known David Glenz Golf Academy.
Minerals takes its name from the unique mineral wealth of the Kittatinny Mountains, a former mining area where an amazing 357 different types of minerals can be found, 34 of which are exclusive to the region. All 175 guestrooms at Minerals Resort & Spa are decorated in an upscale Aspen theme, and many oversized rooms feature stone fireplaces and mountain or pool views.
The Minerals Sports Club has seven indoor and outdoor heated nature pools, two poolside bars, three indoor tennis courts, an indoor running track, a basketball court, steam room, sauna, and a 6,000 square-foot fitness center with cardio- and weight-training.
Adjoining the Minerals Sports Club, the Elements Spa offers a retreat in a palette of copper and natural stone. Elements offers a full menu of massage, body treatments, facials, and salon services; different combinations make up a variety of full-day and half-day spa excursions, like the Day Dream, a therapeutic massage, spa potion facial, Element body polish, hand ritual, foot awakenings, shampoo, hair styling, and spa lunch. Elements features the Peter Thomas Roth line of clinical skin care products.

DISCOVER SENSUAL TREATMENTS AT THE ST. REGIS SPA
As if a glass-walled fitness center and poolside private cabanas with panoramic views from the city to the ocean weren’t enough, the Spa at the St. Regis in Los Angeles offers 15 new reasons to fall in love this summer. Among the spa’s 15 new treatments: the Siddha Body Treatment, Trissage “Body Facial,” and The Själ Cold Fusion Facial. Derived from the ancient Indian healing practice called Siddha Vaidya, (“Knowledge of Life”) the Siddha Body Experience is designed to aid in the removal of toxins after a dry exfoliation. Muslin pouches filled with healing herbs, such as ginger, clove, allspice and eucalyptus are dipped in warm East Indian Sandalwood oil then gently massaged across the body. Finally the body is wrapped so the therapeutic aspects of the herbs can be deeply absorbed. This purifying treatment uses the powers of aromatherapy and herbs to detoxify and revive the skin and spirit. The 80- minute treatment, including day spa use, is $160.
The soothing Själ Cold Fusion Facial was developed specifically and exclusively for the Spa at the St. Regis. It’s designed to exfoliate, oxygenate, hydrate and firm the skin, using minerals, citric acids, enzymes and botanicals. The result of this aromatic and sensual experience: a clean, refreshed face. It’s known among celebrities as the “pre-event facial” because it leaves skin glowing and camera-ready. The 80-minute treatment, including day spa use, is $160. Celebrities like Heidi Klum, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Sean “P. Diddy” Combs are fans of products from the Själ beauty line. The Spa at The St. Regis is the only hotel in the world to carry the line.
To prepare the body for those revealing summer clothes, the spa offers the Trissage “Body Facial.” This intensive treatment exfoliates and infuses the skin with antioxidants, vitamins, and herbs to both hydrate and firm. It begins with an application of alpha-hydroxy exfoliating cream and a combination of detoxifying Chinese herbs that are massaged into the skin. A warm and soothing wrap follows; the treatment is completed with a 25-minute full body massage with Trissage firming cream/oil. The price is $160 for the 80-minute treatment.
The Spa at The St. Regis Los Angeles is a luxurious, full-service day spa. Located on the 5th floor of the hotel, this urban sanctuary features a eucalyptus steam room, a dry sauna, and a relaxation room. Eight treatment rooms are available for facials and massages, including four rooms with private showers and two large rooms with stand alone bathtubs for body treatments, wraps and scrubs. The Spa also houses a glass-encased gymnasium with state of the art fitness equipment; with a panoramic view of a crystal blue heated swimming pool, whirlpool and large furnished shady cabanas. The outside deck overlooks the Westside of Los Angeles to the Pacific Ocean.

TOTAL SPA RETREAT SPECIAL IN SARATOGA SPRINGS
To fans of thoroughbred horse racing, Saratoga Springs, New York, is known simply as “The Spa.” This summer visitors will discover renovations at both the historic Roosevelt Bathhouse and the Gideon Putnam Resort & Spa, both situated within the 2,300-acre Saratoga Spa State Park. The smaller Lincoln Mineral Baths & Spa were renovated several years ago.
Built in 1930, the grand Georgian Revival-style Roosevelt Bathhouse closed in 1997 for its $5 million overhaul. It will now feature a full-service 13,000-square-foot spa, 42 private rooms with bathtubs, Vichy shower, retail shop, and fitness center. While a menu of spa services is available, visitors have long come to Saratoga for the healing effects of bathing in the mineral waters that run through the park. Heated to body temperature, the naturally effervescent spring water eases pain from arthritis and sore muscles.
The first phase of the Gideon Putnam’s $6 million facelift began with renovation of some of the hotel’s restaurants and conference center. The second phase entails complete renewal of all 120 guest rooms, including new bathrooms, carpet, and furnishings. The restoration of the 65 year-old murals in the Garden and Georgian Rooms is part of an effort to return to grand plans of the hotel’s original interior designer, Dorothy Tuckerman Draper.
A National Historic Landmark District, Saratoga Spa State Park also has eight clay tennis courts, two outdoor swimming pools, jogging trails, ice-skating, cross-country ski trails, horseback-riding, an 18-hole championship golf course and par 29 nine-hole executive golf course. It is also home to the Saratoga Performing Arts Center, summer home of the Philadelphia Orchestra, and the New York City Ballet and Opera companies.
The Gideon Putnam offers several packages, such as the two-night “Total Spa Retreat,” which includes one breakfast and one dinner for two, two mineral baths, and two one-hour massages. Priced at $317 per person, the package is not available during racing season (August). For more details and updates, check www.gideonputnam.com or call 800-732-1560.

The Twelve Apostles Hotel in Cape Town has recently launched their new world class spa, aptly named, The Sanctuary Spa. Located only a few meters from the Atlantic Ocean in an underground grotto on the slopes of Table Mountain, the Sanctuary Spa uses the energies of its surrounding environment and enhances them with world-class treatments and products. Clarins has chosen The Sanctuary as the first destination spa on the African coast to specialize in their new international spa line.
The spa is divided into two distinct areas: the Sanctuary and Upper Sanctuary. Sandblasted glass walkovers complete with light therapy lead into the grotto where the eye is drawn between rock pillars to a rest area. Here, an outside waterfall, safeguarded on either side by magnificent statues of Buddha, brings the surrounding natural environment inside and provides the ideal spot to quiet the soul, contemplate life and revitalize lost passions. Hot and cold-water plunge pools entice you from the walkover down a floating a staircase into the candlelit cave. Loungers placed amongst this natural energy offer idyllic relaxation while the concealed Brine flotation pool with starlit ceiling energizes and restores. Further on into the grotto is a sauna, as well as Cape Town's only Rasul Chamber, where clients are enveloped in mineralized mud from the Dead Sea and gently embraced by a soothing mist.
The Upper Sanctuary consists of seven treatment rooms equipped with sound and light therapy. Resin floors bring harmony from the rocks to the treatment areas creating a sleek transfer from the water element to the calm and seclusion of the treatment rooms. Five dry-therapy rooms house heated massage beds while the two water therapy rooms are adapted to include hydrotherapy and Vichy shower treatments. The spa boasts inter-leading rooms allowing couples to enjoy treatments together. Secluded African-styled outdoor gazebos allow guests the opportunity to experience therapies enhanced by the elements of the Atlantic Ocean, fresh air and the natural aromas of the surrounding Fynbos vegetation.

NEW STONEDRIFT SPA AT EAGLE RIDGE
The excitement generated by the opening of a state-of-the-art spa at Eagle Ridge Resort has led United Golf Group, new owners of the 6,800-acre property in the Galena Territory in Northwest Illinois, to rename the entire property.
The newly-named Eagle Ridge Resort & Spa opened Stonedrift, a 6,000-square-foot spa offering a comprehensive menu of facilities and services, in May of this year. “Welcome to the 21st Century of resort facilities,” said Spa Director Vanessa Harris, describing the new services and amenities at the new facility. “We developed Stonedrift Spa to provide guests with a comfortable environment in which to enjoy treatments that heighten their overall well-being, relaxation and beauty,” says Harris. “Our research shows that this is what our guests expect from a luxury-level resort, and we think they will like it.”
The new spa makes dramatic use of natural light and an interesting palate of soothing colors, as well as locally-quarried loess stone, which captures the beauty and historic significance of the Galena area’s glacial era origins. When guests enter the spa, they are greeted by a serene reception area with loess stone walls and skylights that wash the space in sunlight.
“The soothing environment is created with soft natural earth tones, including beiges, yellows and grays found in the glacial rock formations of the Galena Territory along with contrasting shades of cool blue,” said Marty Johnson of Straka Johnson Architects, whose firm designed the new spa. He says that his goal was to borrow elements of the natural setting that surrounds the resort and balance them with new and contemporary components.
Spa guests can enjoy a wide variety of services in one of 10 treatment rooms, each specially named and catering to specific treatments for the entire body. There is a selection of massage treatments that relieve tension, stress and rejuvenate the body from head to toe as well as heighten a sense of well being and provide increased circulation and muscle relief.”
One of the highlights of Stonedrift Spa is a “suite for two,” designed to offer the ultimate in face and body therapies for couples; it features two treatment tables, as well as a large soaking tub for two.
In the spa’s wet room, a Vichy shower soothes the body as multiple water jets stream recreate a gentle rain shower or tropical waterfall. The room also contains a Tsunami shower offering a high-pressure water therapy massage from four showerheads. These rinses are usually performed after a body scrub or before one of the body wrap treatments.
A relaxation room serves as a lounge for both men and women before or after spa services. It provides a comfortable gathering place where guests can enjoy tea, water, fresh fruit and specialty infused fruit waters created by the resort’s executive chef, Randy Hoppman. The chef also has designed a special spa related menu for guests; the resort’s room service menu is also available.
In addition to the Stonedrift Spa, Eagle Ridge offers 63 holes of golf, including The General, the No. 2-ranked public-access course in Illinois, according to Golfweek Magazine. The resort, which was acquired by United Golf Group in January, 2003, also features 80 deluxe guest rooms and more than 400 condominiums, villas and executive homes.
